History: The 1949 Baylor Bears Baseball team posted a record of 9 wins and 6 losses and a 3rd place finish in their conference. The most memorable part of the season was when for the first time since 1923, a Bear nine downed the University of Texas Longhorns in two straight games - the same team that later won the 1949 NCAA Championship. The Baylor Bears are currently members of the Big 12 Conference and play their home games in Baylor Ballpark, Waco Texas.

History: The 1949 Elite Giants were led by a 20-year-old infielder named Jim Gilliam. After three straight All Star seasons in Baltimore by Gilliam, he was signed by the Brooklyn Dodgers, where he won the 1953 National League Rookie of the Year. As the Dodgers’ leadoff hitter for most of the 1950s, Gilliam won four World Series titles, made two All Star Game appearances, and saw his number 19 jersey later retired by the club.
